ELLIS Quick Start Guide
Setup, Navigation, Testing, and Troubleshooting

Desktop Setup

  1. Remove the contents of the ELLIS carton.
  2. Remove the foam supports from around the ELLIS device.
  3. Remove the ELLIS unit from the plastic bag.
  4. Holding the ELLIS unit right-side up (ELLIS logo at bottom) and screen facing toward you, lay it face down on a clean, flat, stable surface. You may place the ELLIS unit on the plastic bag from previous step to protect screen from being scratched.
  5. Locate the small cardboard accessories box that was provided in the ELLIS carton.
  6. Locate the black plastic stand included in the accessories box.
  7. Install the provided stand by sliding it into the channel on the lower-back of the unit.
  8. Carefully lift the ELLIS device off the work surface and set it upright resting on the installed stand.
  9. Place the unit in the desired location.
  10. Plug the provided power adapter into the ELLIS device. There is only one port that matches the fit for the power connection. Plug the power adapter into an AC power outlet (USA 110-120v AC).
  11. The ELLIS unit should power on , and the ELLIS labor postings "slide show" should begin to play approximately 20 seconds after power-on and initialization.
  12. Organize the power cord so that it is not visible to surrounding personnel; use the stand to thread the cord through as needed. Ensure that power cord is not a tripping hazard and secure with tape as needed.

Wall Mounted Setup

  1. Remove the contents of the ELLIS carton.
  2. Remove the foam supports from around the ELLIS device.
  3. Remove the ELLIS unit from the plastic bag.
  4. Holding the ELLIS unit right-side up (ELLIS logo at bottom) and screen facing toward you, lay it face down on a clean, flat, stable surface. You may place the ELLIS unit on the plastic bag from previous step to protect screen from being scratched.
  5. Locate the small cardboard accessories box that was provided in the ELLIS carton.
  6. Locate the metal wall-mount bracket and screws included in the accessories box.
  7. Separate the wall-mount pair and the larger metal plate to the back of the ELLIS device using the smaller machine screws (4).
  8. Identify where you want the ELLIS unit to be mounted and ensure there is an AC power within reach of the desired location.
  9. Mark the wall at the desired height on the wall and attach the smaller metal mount to the wall ensuring the mounting plate is level. Caution: If affixing to drywall, use care to ensure mounting screws are properly and securely affixed to the drywall.
  10. Plug the provided power adapter into the ELLIS device. There is only one port that matches the fit for the power connection.
  11. Hold the ELLIS unit with two hands on either side of device and carefully - from a position just above the wall mount - slide the mounting brackets together. This can be accomplished by lowering the ELLIS unit into the channel seat of the receiving bracket. The brackets should mate and the ELLIS device should be held in place by the wall mount.
  12. Plug the power adapter into an AC outlet (USA 110-120v AC).
  13. The ELLIS unit should power on, and the ELLIS labor postings “slide show” should begin to play approximately 20 seconds after power-on and initialization.
  14. Organize the power cord so that it is not overly visible to surrounding personnel. Ensure that power cord is not a tripping hazard and secure with tape as needed.

ELLIS Navigation / Operation

  1. The 5 buttons in the bottom middle area of the screen perform the following functions (from left to right):
    • HOME: This button will take you to the home screen which displays each form as an individual thumbnail; use the right-side scroll bar to view top and bottom thumbnails. To view a form at full-screen, simply select it by touching the screen on the target thumbnail. Each thumbnail has a short description of the form along with the form identifier (separated by an asterisk).
    • BACK: This button allows for the you to go backward one form per button press in the display order.
    • PAUSE/PLAY: This toggle button allows you to pause the current slide show; when paused the button changes to a play icon; click play to resume the current form rotation.
    • FORWARD: This button allows for the you to move forward one form per button press in the slide show display order.
    • EMAIL: This button allows the currently displayed form to be emailed to an email address entered by the user via the popup on-screen keyboard.

Testing the ELLIS Device

  1. Observe the currently playing forms slide show; are the forms rotating at a 3-4 second interval?
  2. Are the navigation buttons working properly (see above operation instructions)?
  3. Touch the HOME button (far left in navigation icons, bottom middle of display screen.
  4. Are the form thumbnails visible? Is scrolling working properly?
  5. Touch the EMAIL button. Enter the desired target email address with the on-screen keyboard, then touch the "Send Form!" button. Did the emailed form arrive within a few minutes?
  6. Touch the i icon in the lower left portion of the display. Does the "Information" dialog appear? Can you select different tabs to view the associated information? Click the "Get Help" tab; does the device have a "PPP IPV4 Address" defined?

Troubleshooting the ELLIS Device

  1. Observe and note current behavior... is the slide show playing normally? If not, please take a picture of whatever is being displayed on the device *BEFORE* proceeding (even if it appears to be "frozen").
  2. If the device is working normally, please touch the lowercase i icon in the lower left corner of the screen and click the Get Help tab - please take a photo of this display (showing the Information dialog box and Get Help tab data).
  3. Perform a reset by unplugging the device, wait for at least 15 seconds, then plug the ELLIS unit back in to a power outlet.
  4. Please send an email to support@fergtech.com once the above is complete and attach any photos taken.
